Gamblers' Breakdown

-----MIKEY-----

A solid week to start the season, time to keep it rolling (all lines from covers.com):

Game #1: Auburn (-2) over Mississippi St...$55 to win $50

This game seems to good to be true so I'm taking the bait. It's very early in the season so both teams are still riding high with possibility, especially Auburn though because they're a solid overall squad with an electric QB. The Tigers crushed Arkansas St. in the first week and they should be ready to do it again in their first SEC conference game.

Game #2: Miami (+8.5) over Ohio St...$55 to win $50

There's noooo way the U has forgotten about the 2002 National Title Game, and that should make for a physical football game. This contest has BCS implications now that both teams are firmly back in the national spotlight and both QB's are ready to steal the show. Pryor vs. Harris should be interesting to watch as they go back and forth, and I think this game goes down to the wire because of them. Ohio St. may win in the end but it should be close.

Game #3: Temple (-7.5) over Central Michigan...$33 to win $30

Another miracle cover for you Matt, for you.

Game #4: Kansas (+14) over Georgia Tech...$22 to win $20

Two touchdowns seems like alot of points for Georgia Tech to give on the road at a major conference opponent like Kansas. The Jayhawks have taken a step back from their BCS days but are still a solid program that should be able to put up a good fight at home. Maybe that's good logic, maybe it's idiocy, we'll find out Saturday.

-----HINKLE-----

Hope you all followed along to my wonderful start to the 2010 Gambling Season.

Here's a quick recap:

- Boise State is 'Who I thought they were" as was Kellen Moore which is why I took him 10-1 to win the Heisman.
- I was within 3 points of calling the ND score at half and easily hit the Under.
- Fresno at home is too easy as they cruised to a win and cover.
- I called Dion Lewis having a rough night at only 3.0 ypc but the Utes couldn't hold on and gave me a push.

YTD Record 3-0-1 +$77.50 takes me to $1,077.50 Bankroll. Lets keep moving forward.

As I look at this weeks board, no games really jump out at me. I predicted ND to be -3 and Bama to be -13.5. I was upset to find out I was pretty close so couldn't HAMMER either of those lines. With that being said, here is what we will go with for week 2.

Game #1: Idaho (+28.5) over Nebraska...$22 to win $20

Idaho threw for 399 yards last week, rushed for 148, scored 45, and gave up 0. I realize they played North Dakota but to be able to spread the ball around that much and put up that many points gives you a chance to cover such a big number, even vs the #6 team in the land.

Game #2: Michigan (+4) @ ND...$44 to win $40

Denard Robinson could be Ann Arbor's Pat White, but BETTER! We all remember how that turned out for WVU. He completed 19 of 22 passes good for 86.4% last week and averaged 6.8 on the ground for 383 total yards and 2 TDs. With 2 teams looking to get their schools traditions back in order on the gridiron, I will surely take the points in this thriller.

Game #3: BYU/Air Force (OVER 50)...$16.5 to win $15

This should be covered around the 6 minute mark in the 3rd quarter.

Game #4: Alabama (MONEYLINE) over Penn St...$112.50 to win $25

Penn State has a Freshman QB going on the road in the SEC...Yeah OK. I would go All In on this bet but the rules of this contest prohibit such moves.

-----CHUCK-----

In a week that features several marquee games, I am avoiding them. Who needs Miami-Ohio St. when you can watch Bowling Green-Tulsa? Would it surprise you at this point if I told you I don't have a girlfriend? Just what I thought. All lines from Sportsbook.

Game #1: Duke (+5) over Wake Forest...$45 to win $40.91

The Sean Renfree to Donovan Varner connection should be in full effect for the Blue Devils as the Wake defense surrendered 292 yards passing to lowly Presbyterian College last week. Ted Stachitas is no Riley Skinner, and the Deacs' apathetic fans don't give them much of a homefield advantage in this one.

Game #2: Kansas (+14.5) over Georgia Tech...$45 to win $40.91

How could I not pick a team coming off an impressive 6-3 loss to an FCS school? Reality is that the Jayhawks did not play well but still nearly doubled North Dakota State's offensive output. The Ramblin' Wreck is coming off an easy win but Josh Nesbitt completed just as many passes to the other team as he did to Yellow Jacket receivers. Kansas will stack the box and force GT to throw. If they can limit or eliminate their turnovers, then Kansas should have no problem covering two touchdowns in Lawrence.

Game #3: Tulsa (-16.5) over Bowling Green...$45 to win $40.91

If you haven't seen the versatile and shifty Damaris Johnson play for Tulsa then you're missing out. This guy can score from anywhere on the field and Texas transfer GJ Kinne is a very productive quarterback. My only concern is the potential for lingering effects from Tulsa's heartbreaking Hail Mary loss to ECU, but this offense is simply too explosive.

Game #4: NC State (ML +145) over Central Florida...
$30 to win $43.50

As much as it pains me to say this, Russell Wilson is a beast. UCF is a worthy opponent but the Wolfpack defense is much improved and should do just enough to hold off the Golden Knights.

-----MATTARE-----

Disappointing start. We're making serious moves this week to get back in the hunt--can't afford to fall too far back too quickly. All lines from Sportsbook.

Game #1: LSU (-10) over Vanderbilt ...$44 to win $40

LSU squeaked out an ugly victory over Carolina last week, but they should bounce back by stomping their perennial SEC whipping boy Vandy. The Commodores lost four starting offensive linemen from last year's squad, six starting defenders, and their long-time head coach. The Tigers roll in Nashville.

Game #2: Alabama (-12) over Penn St...$44 to win $40

Robert Boldin might be the hero in all of Bill's dreams, but he's making his first road start against the defending national champions. Penn State isn't accustomed to seeing the Tide's level of speed on either side of the ball. In the end it'll overwhelm the Nittanys.

Game #3: Notre Dame (-3.5) over Michigan...$44 to win $40

The public is pounding the Skunkbears and just moved the line down to 3.5, which you have to love as a Notre Dame fan. Denard, Rich Rod, and the entire Michigan secondary are exposed.

Game #4: Stanford (-6) over UCLA...$27.50 to win $25

UCLA was shredded last week by Kansas State's rushing attack and the Bruins' quarterback Kevin Prince was atrocious (9 of 26). Stanford has four returning starters along the offensive line that paved the way for Toby Gerhart last year and they're hardly short on ball carriers (six different ones had at least one touch last week not including the quarterbacks). Harbaugh attacks the shoddy UCLA defensive line and Stanford cruises to a road victory
