THE BODOGS ARE BARKIN: Week #3

It's on to week three for this quartet of compulsive gamblers. After a solid week by Mattare (the only person who lost money in week one) all four are in the black and trying to make moves before Vegas gets a good feel for what the lines should be.

Once again, we'll recap last week first, give a cheat sheet of this week's picks, and then a breakdown below that.

Week 2 Results

1. Hinkle: +$68.50...Another solid week catapults him up the standings
2. Mattare: +$61...Bounce back week for Mattare.
3. Chuck: -$5.59...The Clemson guy picks Duke. Lesson learned...or is it?
4. Mikey: -$18...No miracle Temple cover for Mikey this week.

Overall Standings thru Week 2

1. Hinkle: +$148.50...Leads can disappear quicker than Josh's consciousness on St Paddy's did.
2. Mikey: +$80...Loses some money and contracts mono. Not a red letter week for Miguel.
3. Chuck: +$48.88...Chuck's the only person who doesn't put down whole numbers on his bets.
4. Mattare: +$35.40...Denard Robinson ruins the perfect week in multiple ways.

Week 3 Pick Summary

Gamblers Breakdown

-----HINKLE

I move to 6-1-1 on the year after a 3-1 run last weekend. Pitt blew it week 1 and after scoring 35 points in the blink of and eye BYU/AF managed 14 points in the last 37 minutes of the game or I am 8-0!!!! O well life moves on...this weeks winners.

Game #1: Tennessee (+14) over Florida...$33 win $30

Florida has not impressed me one bit this season. I know the Vols just got rolled by the Ducks but they now return home to play in front of 100k plus vs the Tebow-less Gators who are struggling to find their own identity. This game is a lot closer than the boys in Vegas predict.

Game #2: Tennessee/Florida OVER (46)...$27.50 win $25

Both teams are going to come out fired up to make a statement. Last 15 meetings between these two schools they average a combined 51 points. I will go with tradition in a rivalry game.

Game #3: Notre Dame (+3.5) over Michigan State...$55 win $50

Dear Michigan State: ND is not Western Michigan or Florida Atlantic. Pack your lunch pale because the Irish and Mattare are pisssssed after last weeks games.
*Editor's Note: If ND does not cover I will bet against them every week that ensues.

Game #4: Northwestern (-6.5) over Rice...$22 win $20

I will roll with the Lehigh Valley's Dan Persa after his stellar outing at Vandy. Look for #7 to have another big day in the air and on the ground.

-----MIKEY-----

Last week felt like running-in-place so I'm going with one game early this week to start off with a bang and hopefully get something big going (all lines from covers.com):

Game 1: Southern Miss (-5.5) over Kansas...$110 to win $100

That's right, I've betrayed the Jayhawks who were so good to me last week and took down Georgia Tech at home. This week they're going on the road out of conference and this has letdown written all over it. Southern Miss will be fired up at home to play a BCS conference opponent and Kansas will come out flat for most of the game. This will make or break my week.

Game 2: Connecticut (-6.5) over Temple...$33 to win $30

Loyalty again goes down the drain this week as I'm going against my boys from Temple. UConn had a rough start to the year getting mauled at Michigan but they still have great potential and are hungry for a conference title. They'll march into Philly this weekend and convince everyone that's still true.

Game 3: Tennessee (+14) over Florida...$22 to win $20

Cannot believe I'm taking Tennessee even once all year but Florida's looked about as good as the 2008 Detroit Lions to start the season. I still don't think the Gators have figured it out so Tennessee should be able to keep this within two TD's.

Game 4: Clemson (+7) over Auburn...$22 to win $20

Auburn had a good, hard fought victory at Mississippi St. last week but it took alot out of them. Auburn is also operating with a freshman QB and haven't learned how to pull away and close games yet. Clemson is an athletic team and they'll keep it close till the end in one of the best showdowns of the weekend.

-----CHUCK-----

Game 1: Wake Forest (+17.5) over Stanford...$20 to win $18.18

So I was right last week, Ted Stachitas is no Riley Skinner but the Deacs managed to cover last week against my Blue Devils. Tanner Price is no Riley Skinner; he's better. The Deacs score too much to not cover this spread with the redshirt freshman at the helm.

Game 2: Arkansas (+2.5) over Georgia...$15 to win $13.64

Nobody needs to sell me on Ryan Mallett and the Hogs' offense. And nobody needs to sell UGA to me as a team on the way out.

Game 3: Duke (+24) over Alabama...$10 to win $9.09

Alabama's defense is stifling and Duke's offense puts up a lot of points. The return of Mark Ingram might boost the Tide's spirit but Duke scores too much to not cover this spread. Sean Renfree might be a future first round pick at QB for the Blue Devils.

Game 4: Arizona (+1) over Iowa...$155 to win $140.91

If you haven't seen Arizona play then please take advantage of this opportunity to see one of the most underrated teams in the country. Nick Foles is a top 5 QB and Nic Grigsby is a dynamic playmaker at running back. Oregon might have some competition for the PAC 10 crown!

-----MATTARE-----

Three out of four last week (Dam you Denard Robinson) and we're back in the black. Next step is climbing to the top of the standings.

Game 1: Navy (-3) over Louisiana Tech...$110 to win $99

Coming out of the gate with the biggest bet of the year to date. The Middies were a darkhorse pick to go undefeated and land in the BCS for approximately 48 hours until goal line ineptitude against the Terps blew up that pipe dream. Navy is still a very, very dangerous team. They played the Bulldogs last year and scored 32 unanswered en route to a victory. I feel confident they'll find a way to grind out a victory in the Bayou over a team that gave up 290+ rushing yards three different occasions in 2009.

Game 2: Southern Cal (-11.5) over Minnesota...$44 to win $40

Minnesota had only two starters return on defense. Southern Cal scores points in bunches. Minnesota's offense has been inept. Southern Cal has more 5-star recruits on their defense than Minnesota has 3-stars on offense. Minnesota is terrible. Southern Cal is good. This should be at least a 17 point spread.

Game 3: Arizona (-1) over Iowa...$27.50 to win $25

Ok, so I've been watching this line all week. Arizona opened as a 2pt dog on Monday, it waffled a bit between +2 and +1.5 for the next three days...then Thursday night at 7pm it suddenly jumped from +1.5 to -1 at like 5 different sportsbooks despite the fact that over 80% of the money is on Iowa. What the hell happened at 7pm last night?!?! It makes me nervous so what was going to be a larger bet scales back to a standard one.

Game 4: Hawaii (+12.5) over Colorado...$27.50 to win $25

Colorado is fresh off an ass whoopin' from Cal and arrives at stop three of the Dan Hawkins Farewell Tour. Their offense has been totally inept (111th in total yards) while Hawaii's offense has been rolling through the air as usual (#2 in passing offense with 400+ ypg). This is a lot of points for the Buffs to be giving up considering they're playing with a lame duck coach that has lost three of his last four home openers. GIMME THOSE POINTS!
